Purchasing a Cub Scout Handbook for your Scout is an easy way to help track their progress.
Requirements for each rank vary by group:
Lions & Tigers: We strongly recommend buying the official workbook. It contains all materials for the year, simplifies the process, and provides fun coloring pages for meetings.
Wolf & Bear: We will try to provide printed activity sheets as needed.
Webelos & Arrow of Light (AoL): Scouts should consider downloading a digital reference copy if a Handbook is not purchased. We reference the Handbook for everything starting in the Webelos and AoL years.
Physical books can be purchased at our local Scout Shop or at the online Scout Shop
Shirts: We would love to see every Scout in either a Scouting America tee shirt or the Class A Field Uniform.
Bottoms and Belt: These are optional parts of the uniform and may be worn based on individual preference.
Neckerchief: An iconic triangular uniform piece worn to display den unity and serve as a utilitarian tool. The color of the neckerchief changes each year based on the den. These are optional parts of the uniform and may be worn based on individual preference.
Neckerchief Slide: Any type of slide may be used, provided it keeps the neckerchief securely together.
Adventure Colors: The Pack will provide adventure colors for Webelos and Arrow of Light (AoL) members.
Uniform Sizing Tips:
Choose a shirt size that allows for growth so that it can be worn for multiple years.
Webelos: Continue wearing the Blue Field shirt until it is outgrown. Once outgrown, transition to the Tan Field shirt.
For most Scouts: Scouting America shirts are encouraged but not mandatory. Participation is our top priority, so please come to meetings even without a Scouting America shirt.
For Webelos & AOL Scouts: A Field Shirt (tan or blue) or Scouting America tee shirt is expected. This helps Scouts to prepare for Troop-level requirements, where full uniforms are necessary.
Popcorn Events
When working at a popcorn Store Front event, it is preferred that Scouts wear a uniform. If a uniform is unavailable, wearing a Pack tee shirt is perfectly acceptable.
Scouting should be accessible to everyone, so we offer a "Uniform Bin" to help offset costs. It’s stocked with gently used shirts, belts, handbooks, camping gear, and more. These are completely free to take on a first-come, first-served basis. When your Scout outgrows an item, we simply ask that you donate it back to help another family. The Uniform Bin will become available to everyone in November.
For those who wish to purchase uniforms, several options are available:
Online through https://www.scoutshop.org/, with items usually arriving within a week
eBay, Poshmark, Facebook Marketplace, yard sales, or local Goodwill stores, where uniform pieces can often be found
Our local Council Scout Shop at 2134 Nicholasville Rd., Suites 3 & 4, Lexington KY 40503 (across from the Michaels/Kroger Plaza), which offers expert assistance and patch sewing services. The shop sometimes runs sales with lower prices than online.
